Karenjeet Kaur Bains is the first Sikh woman to represent Great Britain in Powerlifting. Bains hails from an athletics family which has its roots in Punjab.
As per the report, the background of Karenjeet Kaur Bains played a key role in her sporting career. Karenjeet Kaur headed to the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sweden in June 2019.
Warwickshire-based Kaur is the first Sikh woman to compete for Britain at the event. She said that she wanted to represent the nation’s “diverse backgrounds” and was hopeful to open doors for others. Karenjeet Kaur Bains walked into the arena for her first-ever powerlifting competition at the age of 17.
Meanwhile, Karenjeet continued to add achievements to her already impressive record. She was placed in the top 10 at the World and European Championships which was her first international title. She became the 2019 Commonwealth Champion in the under 63-kilogram junior women’s class.
Likewise, she was placed in the top two at the British Senior Bench Press Championships. Her best lifts included 140 kg. squat, 82.5 kg. bench press and a 167.5 kg. deadlift.
On the Kaur’s proudest accomplishment is being the first British Sikh woman to represent Great Britain in an international powerlifting competition.
