The Sikh Army Regiment took charge of the Ceremonial Army Guard duties in the Rashtrapati Bhavan here from the Gorkha Rifles on Saturday.
The 5th Battalion of the 1st Gorkha Rifles, at the end of its three-and-a-half-year tenure as the Ceremonial Army Guard Battalion, handed over the charge to the 6th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment.
President Ram Nath Kovind observed the ceremonial transformation of the Army Guard Battalion stationed in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Different Army Infantry Units act as Ceremonial Army Guard in the Rashtrapati Bhavan by rotation.
The Army Guard Battalion performs ceremonial duties at important events such as the Guard of Honors for visiting dignitaries, the Republic Day and Independence Day parades, the Beating Retreat Ceremony, as well as performing ceremonial guard duties at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Commanders of the 5th Battalion of the 1st Gorkha Rifles and the 6th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment would call on the President later that day. The President will also meet with the men of the outgoing Battalion.
