CHANDIGARH: Food and Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Monday said that preparations are in place for paddy procurement from October 1. This effort is in line with the CM’s commitment to procure the grains from farmers in a smooth and efficient manner.
Ashu said that all arrangements had been made so that no farmer faces any hardship this season. For this purpose, 1734 Purchase Centers have been assigned amongst the procuring agencies. As can be seen the recently released Paddy Policy, Ashu said that technology had helped create solutions and these solutions are being used to bring about transparency and correct problems. Mandis are being linked to mills using GPS mapping technology to avoid extra transportation cost.
Cash Credit Limit (CCL) will be set up before the start of paddy arrival.
He said as per Agriculture Department report, area under cultivation was 29.20 Lakh hectares and state was expecting procurement of 165 Lakh Metric Tonnes besides arrangement of tarpaulins, gunny bags, stock and storage space finalized. Arrangements for procurement of 170 LMT paddy had been finalized, he said. Strict instructions had also been issued to ensure timely payment to farmers, the Minister added.
For online registration and allotment of mills, a new online portal has been launched where applications and payments for release of paddy will be smoothly conducted.
To prevent recycling of PDS rice, penal provisions have been introduced under Essential Commodity Act. Grievance redressal Committee are set up and continuous power supply will be ensured.
The Minister appealed to farmers to paddy within specifications to complement state’s efforts in ensuring a hassle free experience.
